Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Lutarea ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application Your Meditation (the "App") for Apple iOS and iPadOS. The App uses the bundle identifier com.lutarea.yourmeditation; the widget and Live Activity extension uses com.lutarea.yourmeditation.widgets.

1. Summary

Your Meditation is designed to store and process your practice data on your device. Your live session database (SwiftData) is not synced to Lutarea servers or to CloudKit. When you export a backup, the App may write JSON files to iCloud Drive → Lutarea BACKUPS (Apple's shared container for Lutarea apps on your Apple ID) or to a folder you choose in Settings; Lutarea does not receive the contents of those files on its own servers. We do not operate our own backend database for core app content in order to sell advertising profiles, and we do not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the App.

2. Data we process

Depending on how you use the App, categories of information may include:

  • Session and progress data — completed practice logs (session title, category, duration, completion time), optional mood before/after, streak and statistics derived on device, course progress, and streak-freeze preferences.
  • Journal entries — reflection text, prompts, and related session metadata you choose to save.
  • Favorites — identifiers of sessions you bookmark.
  • Preferences — theme, language, night mode, notification schedule, custom breath rhythm, mantra text, timer settings, and similar in-app choices stored locally.
  • Security settings — app lock and biometric preferences; passcode is stored as a hash in the device Keychain; biometric templates are handled by the operating system, not sent to us.
  • First-launch onboarding (optional) — a local flag that you finished or skipped the tutorial; we do not receive this flag on Lutarea servers.
  • Microphone (optional, biofeedback) — if you start a biofeedback session, the App uses the microphone to estimate breathing rate from audio levels on device. Audio is processed in real time and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to Lutarea servers.
  • Notifications (optional) — if you enable reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device using times you set. Notification content is generated on device; we do not send push messages from Lutarea servers.
  • Import and export — if you export or import a backup, data is read or written on your device. Exported JSON may be stored in your iCloud Drive Lutarea BACKUPS container or in a folder you pick.
  • Home screen widget and Live Activity (optional) — the App writes a limited on-device snapshot (for example current streak and practice-of-the-day title) into an Apple App Group container (group.com.lutarea.yourmeditation) shared only between the App and its extension. During an active session, Live Activity may show session title, progress, and remaining time on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. This data is not sent to Lutarea servers.
  • Diagnostics visible to Apple — if you opt in to share analytics with Apple as part of your device settings, Apple may collect crash or usage diagnostics according to Apple's policies.

3. Purposes and legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar)

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on appropriate bases such as:

  • Performance of a contract / steps at your request — providing the App and its features you choose to enable.
  • Legitimate interests — securing the App, preventing abuse, and improving stability, where not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent — where required for optional permissions (for example microphone or notifications), as managed by iOS.

4. Storage and retention

Data is stored locally using Apple's on-device persistence technologies (including SwiftData as implemented in the App). The widget and Live Activity use a separate App Group storage area on the same device for small snapshots updated when you use the App; they do not copy your full database into the extension. We do not receive a continuous feed of your practice contents on Lutarea servers because you use the App.

Retention is controlled by you: you can delete journal entries and history in the App, reset preferences, or uninstall the App (which also removes the widget). Exported JSON backups in iCloud Drive or elsewhere are files you manage yourself.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Data may be processed by:

  • Apple — as platform provider (App Store, device security, WidgetKit, ActivityKit, App Groups, iCloud Drive for optional JSON backups, UserNotifications, LocalAuthentication, and AVFoundation for optional microphone access where you grant permission).
  • Law and safety — if we are legally required to disclose information, or to protect rights and safety, subject to applicable law.

6. International transfers

Because core App data stays on your device in the current version, international transfer issues mainly arise if you choose to store exported backups in a cloud service you use, or if Apple processes diagnostics you share with Apple under your device settings.

7. Security

The App supports optional passcode and biometric lock and optional privacy cover when switching apps. Journal and session history may contain sensitive personal reflections; you are responsible for keeping your device and Apple ID secure.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, port, or object to certain processing of your personal data. Many requests can be fulfilled directly in the App (including deletion of content and exported files you control). You may also contact us using the email below.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required in your jurisdiction. Do not use the App for children below that age without appropriate parental authority and compliance with local rules.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will adjust the "Last updated" date above. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice.
