This Privacy Policy describes how Lutarea ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application Your Dates (the "App") for Apple iOS and iPadOS. The App is associated with the bundle identifier com.lutarea.yourdates.

1. Summary

Your Dates is designed to store and process your dates, people, and related data primarily on your device. If you opt in, the App can also sync selected data across your Apple devices using iCloud and CloudKit (see below). We do not operate our own backend database that receives the contents of your events or contacts for advertising or resale. The App does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the current version. In the current version the App is free to download and does not process payment or billing information.

2. Data we process

Depending on how you use the App, categories of information may include:

Events and people — names, dates, event types (such as birthdays and anniversaries), notes, links between people and events, and similar fields you enter.
Photos — profile images you choose from your photo library or attach to people, stored in the App's local storage.
Wish drafts and history — greeting text you compose and optionally save after sharing.
Menstrual-cycle data — if you use the optional cycle overlay, logged period start dates and cycle settings you configure (for personal display only; not sent to Lutarea servers).
Notification preferences — settings such as enabling reminders, daily digest, and digest time; local notifications are scheduled on your device.
Apple Calendar data — if you use import or export via Apple EventKit, the system shares only what you confirm with Apple's permission prompts; exported events may include a marker note identifying Your Dates.
Google Calendar (optional) — if this integration is enabled in your build and you sign in with Google, the App uses Google's OAuth and Calendar API to import or export calendar events you request. OAuth tokens are stored in the device Keychain on your device. Calendar data is transmitted between your device and Google according to Google's Privacy Policy and the Google API Services User Data Policy. Lutarea does not receive your Google password or a copy of your Google account on our servers. You can sign out in Settings to remove stored tokens on the device.
Contacts — if you import a person from Contacts, the App reads the fields you select through Apple's contact picker; we do not upload your address book to Lutarea servers.
Share extension data — content you share into the App through the system share sheet is processed to create or update items you confirm.
App preferences — theme and appearance, calendar import settings, and similar options stored locally.
Backups you create — ZIP, CSV, or ICS files you export stay under your control. User ZIP backups are stored by default in your shared Lutarea iCloud container (iCloud.com.lutarea.backups, folder Lutarea BACKUPS / Your Dates Backups) when iCloud is available, or in a custom folder you choose in Settings. This is separate from optional CloudKit database sync (iCloud.com.lutarea.yourdates). A manifest.json sidecar may describe backup time and app version. Backup files are not encrypted by the App; protect them like any sensitive document. We do not receive those files on Lutarea servers unless you send them to us yourself.
Automatic recovery backups — if the App cannot migrate your on-device database after an update, it may save a recovery ZIP and optionally a copy of the previous database file locally in the App's storage. These files remain on your device unless you share them; we do not upload them to Lutarea servers. You can access them under Settings → Data → Backup.
Home screen and Lock Screen widgets — when you use widgets, the App may write an on-device event catalog (titles, dates, recurrence rules, and related display fields sufficient to recalculate which events fall on each day) to a shared App Group container so the widget can show today's events and upcoming days without reopening the App. This catalog is not sent to Lutarea servers.
Live Activity and Dynamic Island — if you have birthdays today, the App may show a local Live Activity on the Lock Screen or in the Dynamic Island using on-device data; Lutarea does not receive this display data.
Apple Watch companion (optional) — if you enable it in Settings on iPhone, today's events shown on the Watch app and complications are derived from the same on-device widget catalog in the App Group container. The Watch app does not send your event contents to Lutarea servers; changes are made on iPhone.
Optional iCloud sync (CloudKit) — if you turn on iCloud sync in Settings and restart the App, events, people, relations, cycle data, and preferences stored in SwiftData may sync through your private iCloud account using Apple CloudKit (container iCloud.com.lutarea.yourdates). Event photos you attach may be stored in your iCloud container for the App when sync is enabled. Sync requires you to be signed into iCloud on the device; it is off by default. Apple processes this data under Apple's Privacy Policy and iCloud terms. Lutarea does not receive a copy of your synced database on our servers. Conflicts between devices are resolved on a last-write-wins basis at the record level.
On-device search indexing — if you use system search (Spotlight), the App may index people and event titles locally on your device so you can find them from the home screen search; this data is not sent to Lutarea servers for that feature.
Shortcuts and Siri — if you use App Intents or Shortcuts, the actions run on your device with the data you choose to pass into the App.
Universal links and shared imports — event links (for example on lutarea.com) may include an optional encoded payload in the URL so someone without that event in their library can import it. The App asks you to confirm before opening the import editor; oversized or invalid payloads are rejected. Only share such links with people you trust.
Diagnostics visible to Apple — if you opt in to share analytics with Apple as part of your device settings, Apple may collect crash or usage diagnostics according to Apple's policies.

3. Purposes and legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar)

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on appropriate bases such as:

Performance of a contract / steps at your request — providing the App and its features you choose to use.
Legitimate interests — securing the App, preventing abuse, and improving stability, where not overridden by your rights.
Consent — where required for optional permissions (for example notifications, calendar, contacts, or photos), for optional Google sign-in, and for optional iCloud sync, as managed by iOS or the provider's sign-in flow.

4. Storage and retention

Data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData for events, people, settings, and cycle data, UserDefaults for some preferences, and local files for photos when iCloud sync is off. Data shared between the main App, its share extension, widgets (including the on-device event catalog used to render widget timelines), Watch companion, and Live Activity may use an App Group container on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, SwiftData records and (when applicable) photo files may also be stored in your private iCloud account via CloudKit, subject to Apple's terms and your iCloud settings. We do not receive a continuous feed of your event or people contents on Lutarea servers solely because you use the App.

Retention is controlled by you: you can delete people, events, and wish history in the App or uninstall the App. Turning off iCloud sync stops further CloudKit sync for new changes after restart; data already in iCloud remains subject to your iCloud account until you remove it. Calendar events you exported to Apple Calendar or Google Calendar remain in those services until you remove them there. Signing out of Google removes OAuth tokens from the device Keychain.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Data may be processed by:

Apple — as platform provider (App Store, device security, EventKit, Contacts, notifications, photo picker, iCloud and CloudKit when you enable sync, the shared iCloud Documents container for user backups when you save there, Watch companion distribution, Live Activity, widgets, and system frameworks).
Google — if you use optional Google Calendar sign-in, for authentication and Calendar API processing under Google's terms.
People you choose — when you share wishes or links through the system share sheet or when someone opens a universal link you send.
Law and safety — if we are legally required to disclose information, or to protect rights and safety, subject to applicable law.

6. International transfers

By default, core app data stays on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, Apple may store and process synced data in your iCloud account under Apple's own terms and safeguards. Other international transfer questions may arise if you choose to share data with others or use Google Calendar.

7. Security

You are responsible for keeping your device secure, including passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Universal links and shared messages may reveal identifiers or names you include; share only with people you trust.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, port, or object to certain processing of your personal data. Many requests can be fulfilled directly in the App by editing or deleting your content. You may also contact us using the email below.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required in your jurisdiction. Do not use the App for children below that age without appropriate parental authority and compliance with local rules.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will adjust the "Last updated" date above. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice.
